WHAT IS CERT?

CERT stands for Community Emergency Response Team. 

CERT members are all volunteers. 

The CERT team in Point Roberts is a support team and is guided by Whatcom County Fire District 5 (WCFD5).

WHAT DO YOU LEARN AS A CERT MEMBER?

CERT teaches you how to better prepare yourself for hazards that can happen in your community. 

When you join CERT, you help play an important role before, during and after an emergency. 

CERT volunteers learn basic disaster response skills, team organization, fire safety protocol and light search and rescue. 

Your skills can provide assistance to community members when professional first responders may not be immediately available. It also frees professional first responders to focus on more complex and critical tasks.

HOW DO CERT VOLUNTEERS HELP THEIR COMMUNITY?

CERT empowers community members with the skills needed to save lives, reduce injuries, and protect properties during emergencies.

CERT team members:

  • provide basic first aid 
  • check on neighbors 
  • distribute information to the public 
  • support local emergency centers
  • connect disaster survivors to resources 
  • serve meals 
  • staff booths at fairs & events

HOW CAN YOU BECOME A CERT VOLUNTEER?

The first step to becoming a CERT volunteer is to complete a basic CERT training course.  Then you can join a CERT team.

WHEN CAN YOU GET TRAINING?

Whatcom County Fire District 5 (WCFD5) and the Emergency Management Division of the Whatcom County Sheriff's Department are offering training in Point Roberts starting on May 30th and running through to June 20th, 2026.
